This article is extremely recent, so if there is more chatter about it in the coming days I wouldn't be surprised, as I feel it is important. AP News just released a story discussing California's new abortion laws, intended to battle the anti-abortion laws that recent states such as Texas, Oklahoma, and Idaho have recently passed.
Now that abortion is illegal in a number of states, and they have made it dangerous for people to aid those wanting an abortion from a banned state and to seek help from others, California is working to protect these individuals both seeking help and seeking to help. Specifically, California laws are being put in place to serve as an obstacle in investigations from other states trying to penalize abortion providers.
As we quickly saw the placement of abortion bans around the country, it was easy to forget that governors of pro-choice states were actively keeping their promises to protect abortion. Governor Newsome providing some relief to his citizens is like a breath of fresh air after we received such troubling news in a short period of time, with news of more attacks on women's rights coming so subsequently.
Great post! My family and I discussed this yesterday when I saw this article. I think it's good to have health discussions with the people around you and always enjoy having good talks. It is so refreshing to see that Governor Newsome provided some relief for the individuals needing abortions. Women have had it difficulties ever since we existed and its nice to see states stand up in support. Can't wait to see more states pass laws to help women across the nation.
ReplyDeleteI had not seen this article yet before reading your post. I appreciate what the Governor is doing here. I like that you mentioned how California is putting laws in place to serve as obstacles from other states. I am very interested to see how this topic plays out over the next say 5 years. How state's relationships will change, how laws will change regarding that, etc.
